Ronald Searle is 90!! This is another of my illustration heroes.
Did you know he was a POW in SIngapore during WW2? He did a whole series of drawings while in prison here.
Most inspiring thing about him to me is:
1. He’s still doing “IT” at 90 ( “IT” being “illustration” )
2. His studio is in France!! ( Like my other hero- Robert Crumbs )
3. He never stopped drawing! During his stint as a POW/ artist- he trade cigarettes for drawing paper!!
“He never stopped drawing, despite beatings, bouts of malaria and beri beri, and a Japanese guard’s pick axe in the back.” (quoted from Ronald Searle Biography http://www.bpib.com/illustrat/searle.htm )

Dude… its Ronald Searle!!
its Ronald Searle you’re talking about!!!
Just fixed the video link. Sorry about the glitch.
This is more interesting. Six degrees of separation.
Now this is inspiration for the rest of us!
Brilliant. Inspiring. And I feel like having a beer.
“Illustration and reportage”, i think that is really interesting. I would like to see how newspapers were 100yrs ago..
