Animated Illustrations Old Skool Style for Supersports

Interesting project with Hock from Lights & Shadows. Done circa 2006 – 07. The idea was to have a lino cut illustration style to give it an African Safari treatment to the whole reel.

SKETCH WALK MAY 29th, SATURDAY. 9 to 11.30AM

Sketchwalk for the month of May will be held at Ghim Moh wet market/hawker center. On saturday mornings, it is bustling with people buying their groceries, eating breakfast and selling goods from small makeshift stalls. This old market/hawker place might not be around too much longer so this is a good opportunity to draw it before it is torn down and turned into a modern hawker center. Breakfast can be eaten in between drawing.

To join us, simply meet us at Bouna Vista mrt control station at 9am. We will then begin walking to the market at 9am sharp. If you can’t find us, call Andrew at 91070735.

Alternatively, Tia and friends invite you to join them as they do wood firing and sketching at the Thow Kwang Pottery Jungle, Boon Lay area. 6pm till late. Vesak Day (Friday) There will be a BBQ too (contribution of $5). Please contact Tia at 96968080 for more info. Directions: drop at Boon Lay MRT station, take a bus 199 to Jalan Bahar, walk in along the kampong tarmac road.. lots to sketch along the way, big and small trucks, motorcycles and cars, trees and plants…. Then about 10 mins, you will see the very interesting gate…..and POTTERY JUNGLE!!!

This project is an interactive platform for parents, grandparents and educators to pass on personal stories of the past to their young, and build new memories inspired by the drawings on the mural.

Meet the artist session

Little Red Dot illustrations for SPH

The last few illustrations have been fun. In these few rounds I attempted to shift the style of illustration from the previous style they had been using. The latest style uses brush and ink strokes and coloured/textured in photoshop. The fun part, like the previous rounds, was to dramatise the story with views that can only be achieved through illustrations. The stories are not current stories but a retelling of events that actually happened in history. This newspaper can be picked up at primary schools in singapore. See the whole series HERE.

Travis Charest’s SPACEGIRL Vol. 1

For a while, i thought the artist whom inspired me to hone detail pencil lines had disappeared into thin air, i am very glad he’s back with a self published comic book SPACEGIRL.
I remembered when i first laid my eyes on WildC.A.T.s Trilogy #2; A 4 pp. B&W preview done by this man. I was blown away, and never seen popular comics being drawn like that. I now have slap myself senseless for procrastinating buying his new book for its either sold out or tripled its price since its release.

iPad vs Wacom Intuos vs Cintiq

Having recently embarked on the portable eletronic artpad quest- I found the following article quite insightful.
Rich Hauck’s Blog » Blog Archive » Apple iPad vs. Wacom Cintiq
http://blog.mandalatv.net/2010/04/apple-ipad-vs-wacom-cintiq/

picture from Rich Hauck’s Blog
ipad vs Wacom vs Cintiq

My conclusion-
IF I am at my desk – save money stick with the Wacom ( even the Intuos 3 is plenty good already.) Personally- I don’t feel the need to buy a Cintiq.
IF I am on the move- the iPad is nice- but its still alot to get use to and the Pogo stylus is not as responsive as my fingers. I use the stylus mainly for erasing/ sculpting of patches I have laid down with my fingers.
There is always this fear of the Pogo’s aluminium barrel scraping the iPad screen. And the random markings that mars your workflow when your palm decides to draw too (solution is to wear gloves! )
