The Process- SanSan’s Bowl of Tuberose

Bowl of Tuberose (the flower is known in mandarin as 晚香玉). 24″ x 24″, acrylic.

It’s based on a photo, but I did not expect flowers and bouquets to be so tricky! :P I visited some art galleries in Ho Chi Min city recently for the first time, and I was so amazed by some of the work of vietnamese artists. I tried to remember as much as I could and had to experiment when I got back. I think the trick is…LAYERING!

Its always a joy to be in the company of great artist/ illustrator’s friends- esp when you see how much they put into perfecting their craft!
San San is one such friend, always willing to share what she has learned!

Note to self – Must! Must! Make time to paint !

Nice work on petals and that gold rim around that bowl is very attractive. Beautiful.

Spectacular! Your style has evolved and yet retained the signature San San look (subtle strong outlines!)

Man, if you could apply more conceptually to your pieces, you would really give Ashley Wood a run for his money! (his style is different, but he merges fine art skills with his pop culture ideas)

    *kowtow kowtow*

The layering you are referring to is the awesome Flemish oil painting technique of glazing. Thin layers of oil or acrylic (for modern day paintings) allowed to dry before another layer is applied.

Eh! By the way. Did you get my question on FB?
