You are most welcomed to join us, Urbansketchers, OIC for a special October Sketchwalk that is going to be held at the City Hall or the future The National Art Gallery, Singapore. In conjunction with the sketchwalk event, Dr Yeo and Sheau Theng will be there to give a historical introduction of these buildings namely City Hall and the Supreme Court. At the same time, Infocus Asia will be recording on video the entire process as we sketch.

Let’s meet along the City Hall steps at 9am. We will be sketching at both the mentioned buildings, including the Victoria Theater if time allowed and lastly inside the old Supreme Court if permissible. Finally we should have a sharing and coffee session.

Joeel aka Ejetc wishes OICsingapore a happy 4th Anniversary

If you feel like doing just do it! Do wat you love and have fun doing it. A feel free expression on pure drawing paper. Just draw & flash! That OIC motto I guess!
Mix medium of poster paint, watercolor and ink for this piece and it take me 4 hrs to complete. Very rush but I enjoy doing this style. Happy anniversary 4 OIC!

Untitled

Join us, Urbansketchers and OIC, for our next sketchwalk happening this saturday morning. The location this time will be the Eunos Industrial Estate, located just beside the Singapore Post Centre. This area is rich with workshops specialising in metal works, timber, furniture, automobile repair and spray painting, all lined up one after the other. There will be much to draw. Please take extreme caution: Choose safe spots to sketch and always keep a lookout for forklifts and trucks in this busy area.

Directions: Get down at Paya Lebar Stn. Follow the dotted lines to the food center marked out in red. Meet at the food center at 9.30am. From there we may spread out in all directions, covering the estate at our own leisure. We will return back to the same food center by 12.30pm. The building marked out in pink is rather interesting too if you have time to explore it.

For more information, contact Tia at 96968080 and Andrew at 91070735. See you there!

Sketching weekend and a new pen

Weekend was a blast! Swam in the Infinity Pool, bought a new pen for myself – the second HERO fountain pen which cost SGD29. Sketched at National Library and read @ Basheer – didn’t buy any books – must save money for other thing….

View from National Library @ Hans Cafe

The above sketch was done with a Hero and colored back home. Here’s a sketch of the other Hero I bought @ Straits Commercial. The thinner version with a metallic grip. It has a stiffer nib but still gives a great variety of line thickness and quality. I loaded my older Hero with Polar Brown Noodlers Ink and now it is working much better. I think I have to work it more often in order to prevent clogging.

My new Hero Fountain Pen

Another sketch done with the fatter Hero fountain pen, and painted at home over the weekend.  The problem with this pen was the ink would once in a while stop flowing out of the nib. I have to give the ink converter cartridge a push to remove any trapped air bubbles to aid the flow. Or dipping into an ink pot may help too – that could be a little messy.

Changi Road Kopitiam Colored

Thank you! I hope it is okay to post these. :P

Illustration for Sony Walkman

breakdance 1

breakdance illustration for Sony Walkman

breakdance illustration for Sony Walkman

This is an illustration I did for Sony Walkman a while back. I had some style references to follow for this so its a little different from my usual kind of illustrations. Done in Photoshop, the background with the three guys were used as a constant, so they just varied the dance pose of the main guy in front for their materials. It was one of those jobs that got ‘buried’ by a ton of other jobs in the same month. I had forgotten about it until I saw it in stores recently.

Figure drawing at Apsara Asia (19 Sept 2010)

Had a good day at figure drawing – Don’t think I improved much but I had fun and i managed to get into the mode early on without warm-up so it felt good! :) Someone said I drew the model like I’m drawing comics :p

Much thanks to Shyam for facilitating the whole thing again!
