Black Design x Pigologist x Herman Miller

Herman Miller REACH Hong Kong 2011 Illustrations by Black Design x Pigologist ( aka Diana Goh )

We discovered Diana’s work during our WHITE FRAMES show last year where she submitted some of her interesting quirky paintings. We always look forward to such moments- discovering new talents and seeing them getting new and interesting assignments and sharing with us here.

Diana started fulltime illustration in 2010. Before that she worked fulltime as a 2D animator and has done work for character designs, animation, cartoon comic strips, games designs, toys design, concept art and some freelance illustrating in the past before embarking on her fulltime illustration career.

For this Herman Miller project- Diana was commissioned by Black Design to interpret the Herman Miller campaign in her unique style based on one of her earlier illustration.

This is the illustration that started it all- this piece was commissioned by a creative agency in Istanbul.

Andy Yang’s solo show “Emotions”

This is a new solo show by Andy Yang- The ‘Emotions’ series came about as a reaction to music soundscapes composed beforehand and repeated to create a trance-like painting style strongly rooted in Abstract Expressionism. Raw emotions are invoked as layers upon layers of paint are laid down like tracks on a musical score creating a visual map of emotions.

SKETCHWALK AUGUST

Dear sketchwalkers, the upcoming sketchwalk for this month will be at Geylang Serai, this saturday. Some of us did an adhoc sketchwalk there recently, but they didn’t cover everything. And some of us could not make it. So now you have one more chance to capture the preparations for the upcoming Hari Raya Puasa.

The sketchwalk leader for this event will be Paul. Please look out for him at the main PAYA LEBAR MRT control station (not the circle line) at 10AM sharp. We will start later as this will give us time to vote (polling day) before or after the sketchwalk. From there, we will make our way to the area of the malay village and Joo Chiat Shopping Complex. (See map.) We will meet again at 1PM for lunch and “show and tell” (lunch location to be revealed at event) If you can’t find us or have any questions, please call Paul 97923622

OIC Interview with edau

Thanks Kaiyee for interviewing edau !

Edwin Reginald Beauchamp aka edau (pronounced eh-do) is a Freelance Graphic Designer and Illustrator currently based in Miami, Florida. Since graduating from the Miami International University of Art & Design in 2008, he has had the opportunity to do work for various companies & design studios. These include Friendswithyou, Pharrell Williams, LG & Lemon Yellow.

Edau tends to immerse himself in inspiration by constantly looking at various outlets which can be seen as influences in his work. These influences to name a few include pop art, dreams, abstract imagery. illustrators on nobrow.net, contemporary fashion design, vinyl toy design and local illustrators. In addition to freelancing full time, he is currently at work on several self-promotional projects. These include a promoting & designing limited edition products for his own personal product line, creating illustrations & experimenting in graphic design.

Ky: What inspires you as an illustrator and what do you think are requirements for being a successful one in this day and age?
Ed: I’m inspired by many outlets in graphic design and illustration that I can relate to and interest me. I try to take in as much as possible and be aware of current trends in order to not fall behind. I think in order to be successful, one needs to be prepared to work as hard as possible and have a good body of work that best represents your strengths. Also, use the work of those who are more successful than you as motivation to work harder to get where they’re at. After all, there will always be someone who is better than you. The sooner you accept that, the better.
