SKETCHWALK AUGUST

Posted: August 25th, 2011 | Author: drewscape | Filed under: Uncategorized | Comments Off

Dear sketchwalkers, the upcoming sketchwalk for this month will be at Geylang Serai, this saturday. Some of us did an adhoc sketchwalk there recently, but they didn’t cover everything. And some of us could not make it. So now you have one more chance to capture the preparations for the upcoming Hari Raya Puasa.

The sketchwalk leader for this event will be Paul. Please look out for him at the main PAYA LEBAR MRT control station (not the circle line) at 10AM sharp. We will start later as this will give us time to vote (polling day) before or after the sketchwalk. From there, we will make our way to the area of the malay village and Joo Chiat Shopping Complex. (See map.) We will meet again at 1PM for lunch and “show and tell” (lunch location to be revealed at event) If you can’t find us or have any questions, please call Paul 97923622

Points of interest:

1. holland village’s cafes/restaurants.

2. the famous magazine stand opposite crystal jade.

3. Chip Bee garden’s nice white semi-d houses. (marked with a pink circle)

4. Behind the carpark (on your way there) is the bouna vista swimming pool. It is old and charming. and may be torn down soon. (marked with a green circle)

5. old mosque near the car park.

For food, there is the holland village fried beehood at the hawker centre (if open), provence bakery for good curry buns, cheese balls and toasted sandwiches, daily scoop homemade icecream, and da paolo gastronomy for gelato and heated lasagna/pizza.

SKETCHWALK this saturday 930AM

Our upcoming sketchwalk will be at Redhill. (read the story behind the area). Drop at Redhill MRT station. Cross the traffic junction on your left when you exit (A) the station. We will meet at the Redhill food centre (Blk 85 Redhill lane) at 9.30am where you can have your breakfast before sketchwalking.

We will then spread out to any direction we like. To the west are many car showrooms such as Lexus, VW, Porsche. There is a small temple there too. Around the food centre, it is mostly residential. There are HDB flats with varied designs from charming/old to new. Take the opportunity to climb up to a high floor for a different view. The hawker centre and the wetmarket, with its strange roof designs, could be interesting to draw as well. Take your time exploring the area and drawing. At 1230pm, we will return to the food centre for lunch. There are quite a few good stalls there.

See map HERE. Pls contact Tia 96968080 or Andrew 91070735 if you can’t find us.

This sketchwalk is organised by Urbansketchers Singapore.

Tia will not be able to join us for Saturday’s sketchwalk. This is because she will be at the Dragon Kiln from Friday till Sunday doing pottery wood firing. She invites anyone who is interested to join her for a mini sketchwalk and BBQ at the tree house there. (no need to bring BBQ food but finger food welcome). The location is Thow Kwang Pottery Jungle. 85 Lorong Tawas (off Jalan Bahar). And please come on FRIDAY 6PM till late. (***the night before our saturday sketchwalk***) It may be a little far off to get to. But it is an interesting place. To Thow Kwang Pottery Jungle – Take MRT to Boon Lay Station. Hop on to bus 199 at the bus interchange. Alight the bus stop after the PIE flyover along Jalan Bahar, just before the turn to Nanyang Avenue (NTU). You can see a small road on the left side with huge pots at the corner before the bus stop.

Please call Tia for directions if you get lost or if you need more info about the dragon kiln. Tel: 96968080.
