“MessyMsxi’s Breakfast Barter” is my most recent personal project, it is an interactive concept, whereby visitors can draw their ideal breakfast or a breakfast representation on the standard template which I prepared, in exchange for one of my breakfast postcard. Despite the project being non-profitable, the biggest reward was having our roles swapped; it was the visitors illustrating their breakfast for me. This approach has allowed me to connect friends and strangers over the subject of breakfast, which I deeply enjoy.
Below are images taken during my second breakfast barter, to view more of my first breakfast barter you can check it out here .

Postcards for barter

Booth was initially set up for about 3 participants

In the end we had almost 6-8 drawers in a go..

Below are a few selected drawings I received

A pop-up gallery was set up to act as a photo taking backdrop and to engage with other visitors who have interest in taking part.

I have recently created a MessyMsxi Facebook page where I can more easily share updates of my work and activities with public, so “like” it if you’d like to hear more from me : facebook.com/MessyMsxi

Project : ‘A Penny For Your Tot’ – Collaboration , MessyMsxi & Mint Museum of Toys
-
‘A Penny for You Tot’ is an opportunity for children to get in touch with learning more about the history of Penny Toys and process of which they were made. This collaboration opens an opportunity for me to make craft and the stories of Penny Toys appealing for children, hopefully helping them to find a connection with handicraft and how Penny Toys were made and played.
-
01. Drawing of artwork : Actual size 40 x 40cm, but I always leave a 2-5cm bleed.
02. Guidelines were necessary for me to measure the size and length of ground and standing trees.

- I always draw my illustration in parts, just in case I want to shift them around.

- I had a picture(actually a folder) for colour reference and also to study how the bushes and forest should look like.

03 : After colouring, I lasso-ed out the bushes which I needed to cut to create standees.

04. I layered the illustration cut-outs for a pop up effect.

05. Final display of Garden Escapade model with Penny toys from Mint Museum -

Many may have already seen Josh Cochran’s work, but just wanted to share more of his works here. His works are digital but imitates silkscreen and I feel the colour schemes that he uses work very well.

Dear all,
I am having a little showcase of prints and books at the little drom store during the month of March. On sale will be prints, glasses, buttons and postcards. Do drop by if you’re in the area. Besides, there is a really awesome cake counter too – Kki.
Sometime soon I will be doing a solo exhibition, so please stay tuned for that.
Thank you very very much

Title: “台上一分钟, 台下十年功” / “One minute on stage, ten years of training”
Here is a glimpse of my latest series, which seeks to celebrate failure, pain and perseverance.

So often in life we are used to seeing people praised and celebrated for their successes but we rarely even get an inkling of the pain and suffering they have endured. Using the training life of Acrobats to express this idea of behind-the-scenes training; the idea of having to try and try harder and harder again.
As an audience, all we ever see are the acrobats performing all sorts of acts in perfection and grace but we have never seen them or been backstage, where the real performance is – the training to achieve the seemingly impossible.
This series is an outright documentation of: failure, process, training, preparation , suffering, bruising, not giving up and a toast to “the beginner’s spirit”. It serves as a reminder that success never comes easy and its the journey that builds character. It is a series seeking to encourage all who are in difficulty, to remind everyone who trudge the tough road that it will be worth it in the end.

Something inspiring for illustrators who likes doing portraits : http://poppopportraits.blogspot.com/ . I first came across this Helena’s water-colour pencil portraits when I was browsing through my favourite Australian magazine, Frankie, which features many young illustrators, collectives and interesting stuffs. I was especially attracted by the colours and facial expressions in Helena’s portrait characters.
