Portraits of children and their aspirations

Late last year, we were commissioned by a charity to produce some portraits for the Trans Centre (a non-profit organisation for children from broken homes.)

The aim of the project was to help the children envision what they would like to be in future and drawing a portrait of them in their “dream role” to motivate them. The portraits were then presented to the children as small part of an aid package.

This is the 1st time we produce so many portraits based on photos and some verbal description of the kid’s personalities. We prefer to draw from life and in person.
Mindflyer was in charge of liaison and co-ordination ( esp since there are 5 of us involved- we have to set a size and format template to ensure consistency )

Those who participated  also include-  AnnGee,  Shyam, SanSan and Twisstii.
Special thanks to Wei Wei Yeo ( The National Art Gallery, Singapore )  for the introduction and recommendation .

HP TouchPad launch/ OIC Portraits After Dark @ Klapsons The Boutique Hotel

We were invited to the special event for HP’s TouchPad launch at the Klapsons The Boutique Hotel on 26th July. Due to the smaller space allocated to us – we have to be very selective and handpick 12 “spartans”/artists to show the crowd what a portrait event by OIC is all about!
We had a wonderful time pleasing the crowd! First time we had such an intense 1 to 1 kind of session and we were very pleased that even our new comers Xin Nie and Sharon took the challenge very well! There were also many queries about OIC and what we do.
We hope to do more such sessions especially with brands like HP that believes in giving local talents opprotunities to shine.
Thanks to Hsu Wei and the HP team, Pat Law and the GoodStuph crew , Edelman, PMG Asia and of course our specially handpicked team from OIC that make this event fun and memorable!

San San’s new portrait of Fleecircus

This a painting of my favorite illustrator and photographer! Can you guess who she is? :)

It’s based on a photo that she took of herself and i wanted to add in some elements that are associated with her – chairs, the outdoors, nature, birds. You can see from the progressives that it took some time to get to the final picture, but the journey was fun. The painting is 36″ x 48″, acrylic on canvas.

The Process- SanSan’s Bowl of Tuberose

Bowl of Tuberose (the flower is known in mandarin as 晚香玉). 24″ x 24″, acrylic.

It’s based on a photo, but I did not expect flowers and bouquets to be so tricky! :P I visited some art galleries in Ho Chi Min city recently for the first time, and I was so amazed by some of the work of vietnamese artists. I tried to remember as much as I could and had to experiment when I got back. I think the trick is…LAYERING!
